In early April, students in the Barrie Central Senior Band, along with Mr. Hilliam and Ms.Perry, will be travelling to Austria and Germany to perform and tour their way through a foreign culture. Armed with their instruments and sense of adventure, these young musicians are excited to have two performances on another continent. Aside from performing, students will be touring famous sites such as Mozart’s birthplace, and the set from The Sound of Music.
Weeks of practice have gone into preparing a setlist for the performances. Band members have been enthusiastically rehearsing during lunch time in order to perform at their very best for their European audience. “The anticipation is killing me,” said Eliott Camargo, saxophone player and member of band exec.
Fundraising has been a major focus for the band over the last year. A variety of events ranging from Central Idol--a high school recreation of popular vocal competition television shows--to Shopapalooza, a bazaar that compiled many local shops and businesses into the school’s cafeteria for a night of shopping. The money raised from these events will pay for expenses such as eight nights in four-star hotels, complete with buffet breakfasts and multi-course dinners. In their down time students will be entertained by a variety performers including an accordion player and an Austrian choir.
This unique experience will prove to expand our young musicians’ cultural, and musical experiences.
