It’s no surprise that with the start of the new school year the Barrie Central Student Council is already hard at work. By the third week of school, the student council is in full swing planning the best dance of the year. The white attire dance was a smashing success. With 245 tickets sold, the gym was packed full of people partying with their peers. French exchange student Paul, who attends Barrie Central, was bewildered by the boisterous atmosphere. He said he enjoyed the experience. "It was fun! I have never been to a dance with the school before!" said Paul. Special thanks to all the student council members for their hard work in setting up the dance and cleaning up afterwards.
The student council did not stop there. Our executive members--Sav F. president, Matt S.L. vice president, Annabelle P. secretary, Jade L. public relations, Julia M. treasurer, Chelsea A. grade 11 representative and Remi E. grade 10 representative, along with general members, Rebecca I, Alexis C, Mackenzie C, Nav G, Julia S, Katrina C, Katie C, Shannon K, Michelle S, Avery F, Christine D and Benny G--are hard at work planning upcoming events for Barrie Central.
This year for the seventh year in a row our very own Barrie Central hosted Imagine Action, a day for all student councils to come and share their ideas and inspire each other with their plans for the upcoming year. At this amazing event, student councils got together to discuss their influence and their ability to empower the student body with their leadership and enthusiasm. Other schools supported Barrie Central with our ongoing struggle against our imposing closure. Student council members from other high schools are already involved in helping, by taking petitions back to their schools to get signatures of people who support keeping Barrie Central open. Imagine Action, along with the eagerness of all the members, propelled the student council into action.
So go ahead and get excited about these upcoming events and activities that student council is planning: school swag and clothing, Pink Day to support breast cancer survivors, and other spirit days to raise awareness for issues in and involving our community. Spirit week is the last week of October. It also includes the popular Barrie Central traditions of a Library Unplugged (October 30) and a haunted classroom (October 31).
