High school students talk resiliency at fourth annual symposium
Students from five school boards - SCDSB, SMCDSB, BDSB, B-GCDSB, and TLDSB - and over 40 highschools, came together to explore issues of equity and exclusivity at the 4th Annual Equity in Action Symposium on February, 25 at Georgian College.
The theme for the symposium was “Resiliency: The Courage to Come Back”. Students heard from keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Ungar, who is a family therapist and resilience expert. There were also over 30 hands-on workshops to help educate and empower the students, so that they can bring a change back to their schools.
“Conversations are often the starting point for change, and bringing students together from across several boards who represent hundreds of schools will get a lot conversations started,” said Jane Dewar, Itinerant Resource Teacher – Equity & Inclusion, (SCDSB). “The goal of the conference is for these students to learn about equity and inclusion, share their ideas and bring momentum for change back to their schools.”
