Back once again to begin our school year, many students may have noticed that yet again Barrie Central is the host of several international exchange students, one of whom is Philip Chwilka.
Philip resides just outside of Hamburg, Germany and has found the change to living in Canada to be quite major. He decided to do a ten month exchange to try and better his English speaking and comprehension abilities, as well as learn a bit about Canadian culture. Philip has noted that the people in Canada are very friendly and always willing to help him; it’s just the weather he is not looking forward to. He has already found it to be very cold outside and upon hearing that it will get colder he did not look impressed.
Philip is enjoying school in Canada very much, and finds it to be easier than back in Germany. He also finds that the teachers are far more kind, and that there are many different course options that make school more interesting. Currently, Philip’s favourite class is Fitness; no surprise, as he is no stranger to sports. Philip, upon starting at Barrie Central, got involved in the Sr. Boys Soccer team. He played forward and ended the season with a beautiful goal.
Philip still has much to look forward to, and though he misses his friends back in Germany, he is very glad he chose to do this exchange. Philip is very happy to have the opportunity to meet so many new people and experience a new culture very different to his own.
