For only the second time in 23 years, Ms.Faye, the intrepid coach of the senior boys' volleyball team, has a lot of free time on her hands this November. That’s because the senior boys ended their season slightly earlier than expected, by losing a hard-fought semifinal game to Midland. The Phoenix players pushed it to a fifth set, but ultimately came up short.
On Saturday, November 9, 2013 was one of the biggest games for Barrie Central’s senior football team. The boys traveled to Orillia’s sports complex to face Orillia District Park for the GBSSA ‘AAA’ finals. Kickoff was at 11:00 am. ODP (Orillia District Park) scored a 3-point field goal in the first quarter. Central caught up during the third quarter. Nick Bain, Central’s quarterback, ran it in to the end zone himself to land Central a touchdown against ODP. Nick Morgan completed with a field goal, giving Central a 7-3 lead. Unfortunately, in the play right after Nick Bain ran the touchdown, ODP’s player Jesse Dinsmore scored a touchdown, putting ODP on top 10-7. Central’s boys continued to fight for the Georgian Bay Championship. During the fourth quarter of the game, ODP kicked the ball to Barrie Central landing it in the end zone, and giving ODP a 11-7 lead. It was a tough game for both teams. In the end ODP won the championship, but Barrie Central’s boys will move on to OFSSA on Tuesday November 12, 2013. After the game, Nick Bain was congratulated for winning MVP. Robbyn Rooney On Friday, November 8, the junior boys played a game here at Central. The boys played an awesome game, winning in three straight sets against Jean Vanier. Minutes before the game began, a fire alarm sounded. At first we all thought it was just the buzzer to begin the game. After realizing that it was actually a fire alarm, all the spectators and players exited the gym towards the back of the school. No one really knew what was going on. But after 10 minutes of standing around in the cold, the alarm stopped and we re-entered the school. After everyone got settled back inside, the game could begin. The boys played remarkably and came out as winners. Then on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Barrie Central junior boys' volleyball team finished off their season in style: by beating Parry Sound in three straight sets, to win the GBSSA title. It's the boys' second year in a row of winning the GB championship. Bailey McMillan After a disappointing loss at GBs, the Barrie Central Senior football team was back in action on November 12, 2013. The boys traveled to the Orillia Sports Complex to participate in the semi-finals against the Mother Teresa Titans from Ottawa. It was a hard-fought, tough game but well played. In the second quarter Mother Teresa scored 3 points to put them ahead of Barrie Central. Brian Lynn ran the ball and gained them yards but the Titans had outstanding defence, blocking Brian Lynn at every turn. Then Mother Teresa scored a touchdown. They tried for the kick but missed, leaving Mother Teresa with a 9-0 lead. The Central boys weren’t giving up yet: Jeremy Parsons ran the ball 35 yards toward the goal line. Central scored a point, making it 9-1.
In the last quarter, the rush was on and the senior boys were still not giving up. The Central defense was on guard and ready for action. Mitchell Brooks and Morgan Brazeau tried not letting any Titans through their line. Unfortunately, Mother Teresa scored yet another touchdown, making the final score 16 – 1 for the Titans. Reager Hall-Graves showed team player characteristics during the game. Overall, the Barrie Central’s Senior Boys Football team had an outstanding season. Good luck next year, guys! Robbyn Rooney |
